Metabolic flexibility: The missing link between steady energy and metabolic health

Metabolic flexibility is the body’s ability to efficiently switch between its two different fuel sources:

  1. Burning carbohydrates from a meal (the “fed” state)

  2. Burning stored fat (the “fasting” state)

The hybrid car analogy.

However, fasting isn't a magic solution, and it isn't appropriate for everyone. Factors like medical conditions, medications, pregnancy, and individual nutrition needs should always be considered before beginning any fasting routine.


Rather than focusing on prolonged fasts, many people benefit simply from reducing constant snacking and allowing normal periods (2–3 hours) between meals, giving the body opportunities to naturally transition into the fasting state.
